The extremely smart Boy - a fable

                    The Extremely Smart Boy

Mrs. Harringson's class had an extremely smart boy called Adam. He was in enrichment, and he was a star in every subject. Math, reading, social studies, science, absolutely everything.

The worst grade he had ever gotten this year was an A. That's right, an A. He was like, the star pupil of our class, but he shone most in math. He had won the medal for the math wizard every year. I would have won a prize if there was one for the most C's. That's right. I'm not the type of student to be considered a "star pupil."

I had made a mental note in my head to study extra hard for the next one. It was Tuesday when Mrs. Harringson had one of her special announcements. "Okay, class," she said. "In 4 days is math test day!" All of us groaned except for Adam, for he was very good at math.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention I'm one of the 1,000,000 friends he has. Oh my gosh, I'm so impolite. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Henry, Henry Johnson.
That day I got a text from Adam.

Adam: Hey dude you want to play video games?
Me: Nah, I'm studying for that math test, and you probably should be doing the same.
Adam: I ain't studying.
Me: Why?
Adam: I already rock at math.
Me: Fine, have it your about way.
When you get an F, think of me saying, I told you so.
Adam: in your dreams.

I studied extra hard for that test, and believe it or not, the night before the test I felt pretty confident. I did not know about Adam, but I knew he was going to get something other than 100 percent. Finally, the test day came. I was not surprised that Adam looked nervous. He spent all his time playing video games. When the test was passed out, I knew each of the answers because I had studied. Adam had turned pale, and was randomly circling the answers, I guess. When everyone was finished with the test, the grades were called out." Henry, 100 percent!" the teacher cried. I grinned and sighed in relief. Adam's grade was called out last. "Adam, 48 percent." 48 percent was an F.

Adam had turned disappointed and hung his head low. I guess overconfidence shadowed him, made him believe he was too good, so he did not study. I guess he learnt his lesson to not be too overconfident.
